Ondo Govt Vows To Prosecute Those Who Intimidate Rape Victims, Says ” No Leniency For Rapists”
The Ondo State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo (SAN), has expressed deep concern over the rising cases of rape and sexual assault in the state, describing the trend as a grave threat to the moral fabric of society.
In a statement, Ajulo lamented that despite sustained awareness campaigns and existing legal frameworks, incidents of sexual violence continue to rise, leaving women and children traumatised.
He cautioned traditional rulers, political leaders, community heads, and other influential persons against interfering in rape cases or seeking leniency for suspects, warning that such actions amount to aiding criminality.
“Let it be heard loud and clear: no one should approach me, directly or indirectly, to seek leniency or beg on behalf of any rape suspect. Such requests will not only be rejected but treated as an affront to the dignity of victims and a sabotage of justice,” Ajulo declared.
The Attorney-General reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to ensuring that perpetrators face the full weight of the law, stressing that no individual, irrespective of status or influence, would be spared.
He revealed that the Ministry of Justice would soon begin publishing the identities of convicted rapists in public places across the state to serve as a deterrent to others.
Ajulo also warned those who intimidate or harass victims to withdraw their cases, noting that anyone caught doing so would face prosecution.
He urged parents, teachers, and community leaders to intensify moral education and vigilance among youths, assuring that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s administration remains resolute in protecting the vulnerable and upholding justice in the state.
