In a bid to enhance food security and improve local production, the Lagos State Agricultural Input Supply Authority (LAISA) has trained over 500 farmers and fishermen in Ikorodu Division.
The intensive one-day forum, which was held at Ikorodu Local Government, focused on equipping participants with innovative farming and fishing techniques that suite their specific needs.
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Ms. Abisola Olusanya in her keynote address, emphasized the wider significance of the initiative. She stressed that food security is not merely an agricultural concern but is important to economic stability, public health, and urban resilience.
The Commissioner, who was represented by Mrs. Aramide Gansalo, the Director of Agribusiness, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems, corroborated the government’s commitment to local producers, stating that “As a Government, we recognize that the journey to self-sufficiency starts with quality inputs. For our farmers, access to high-yield seeds, appropriate fertilizers, and modern equipment is important for maximizing the little resources available in our state, that is where LAISA comes in”.
Speaking on the theme, ‘Harvesting Success: Innovative Solutions for Lagos Farmers’, the General Manager of LAISA, Mrs. Olufolake Oluyemi, described the event as more than just a training, emphasising its role as a direct engagement platform.
She added, “We recognize that the challenges faced by farmers in Ikorodu are unique compared to those in Badagry or Epe. Therefore, this forum is designed as both a capacity-building session and a platform for us to listen, learn, and co-create innovative solutions.”
