Ogun Ready For State Police – Abiodun

.. unveils cash transfers for vulnerable households
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has declared the state’s readiness to establish its own police force, while launching a cash transfer programme to support vulnerable households amid rising living costs.
Abiodun made the announcements at a town hall meeting on the 2027 budget and 2027–2029 Medium Term Expenditure Framework for Remo Division, held at the Akarigbo Palace in Sagamu.
The governor, who chairs the Nigeria Governors’ Forum Committee on State Police, said Ogun’s expanding industrial and commercial activities required stronger security arrangements. He disclosed that the state had about 6,000 personnel across the Amotekun and So-Safe Corps, supported with vehicles, equipment and operational allowances.
On social protection, Abiodun said cash transfers would begin immediately in Sagamu, with identified beneficiaries expected to receive payment alerts before the scheme is extended across Remoland and other parts of the state.
He also announced plans to provide boreholes in all 236 wards, alongside transformers and solar-powered streetlights.
At the meeting, Commissioner for Finance, Dapo Okubadejo, said Ogun recorded 70 per cent budget performance in 2024 and 65 per cent in 2025, as preparations begin for the 2027 fiscal year.
Residents and traditional leaders also called for road rehabilitation, improved maintenance of public facilities and greater investment in education and poverty reduction.
