The National Sports Commission (NSC) on Monday received a joint FIFA/CAF delegation at its Abuja headquarters for a working engagement with Commission Chairman Shehu Dikko, marking the start of the delegation’s assessment visit to Nigeria.
Discussions focused on proposed comprehensive reforms to reset Nigeria’s football ecosystem, including legal structures, governance, football development, stakeholder collaboration and practical solutions to strengthen the game.
Dikko stressed the importance of collaboration among the government, FIFA, CAF, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and other stakeholders in advancing football development.
FIFA representative Rolf Tanner said the delegation would listen to stakeholders through broad-based engagements, examine the proposed reform roadmap and assess the current situation before presenting its findings to FIFA leadership.
The engagement provided an opportunity for constructive dialogue, with all parties emphasising continued collaboration in the best interests of Nigerian football.
The delegation is expected to meet with the NFF administration and representatives of NFF members, including State Football Associations, leagues, players, coaches and referees.
It will also meet other key stakeholders, including former NFF presidents and general secretaries, club owners, sponsors and experts, to gather relevant views and suggestions for the assessment.
FIFA will hold a final technical meeting with NSC representatives on Tuesday to conclude the visit.
