Bruno Fernandes scored a hat-trick as Manchester United came from behind to comfortably beat Ipswich Town.
The visitors, who defeated Sunderland on their return to the Premier League last weekend, took the lead when Leif Davis scored a superb half-volley following excellent wing play by Abdul Fatawu.
However, the momentum quickly shifted in United’s favour after Marcelino Nunez slipped, allowing the hosts to break from a corner. Matheus Cunha then teed up Fernandes, who fired home the equaliser.
United took the lead when Harry Maguire’s effort deflected off Jacob Greaves and into the net for an own goal. The ball had struck Maguire’s arms in the build-up, but the goal stood because he was not the player who scored.
Three minutes later, Greaves was involved again, bringing down Cunha inside the box to concede a penalty. Fernandes stepped up and calmly converted to put United 3-1 ahead.
The United captain completed his hat-trick when he pounced after efforts from Kobbie Mainoo and Bryan Mbeumo were blocked.
Fernandes then sent Mbeumo through with a superb ball over the top. The forward’s shot struck the crossbar before spinning over the line to make it 5-1.
Ipswich grabbed a late consolation when Julio Enciso cut the ball back for half-time substitute Chuba Akpom to score.
