Rangers International of Enugu and Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan will host their respective continental opponents at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta, Ogun State, after selecting the venue for their upcoming CAF inter-club fixtures.
The decision means both Nigerian clubs will move away from the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, which had earlier been considered as a possible venue for their continental home matches.
Rangers, the reigning Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions, had initially reached an agreement with Remo Stars to use the Ikenne facility for their CAF Champions League campaign. However, after further consultations with the club’s technical team led by head coach Fidelis Ilechukwu, the Enugu-based side opted for the MKO Abiola Sports Arena as its preferred home ground.
The Flying Antelopes won their ninth NPFL title at the end of the 2025/26 season after defeating Ikorodu City 2-1 in Lagos on the final day. The triumph earned Rangers a place in the 2026/27 CAF Champions League.
Rangers will begin their continental campaign against Benin Republic’s AS Sobemap in the first preliminary round, with the Enugu club needing to navigate the qualifying stages successfully to reach the group phase.
Shooting Stars will also adopt Abeokuta as their continental base after initially considering the Remo Stars Stadium.
The Ibadan-based club secured a place in the CAF Confederation Cup after finishing third in the 2025/26 NPFL season. The Oluyole Warriors face a difficult opening assignment against Tunisian side CS Sfaxien in the first preliminary round of the Confederation Cup.
With both Nigerian clubs now set to host their continental opponents in Abeokuta, the MKO Abiola Sports Arena is poised to stage a series of high-profile African club fixtures involving two of Nigeria’s leading football sides.
