Ruthless Barcelona Punish Newcastle Errors To Seal Dominant Champions League Win

Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski each scored twice as Barcelona delivered a commanding performance to eliminate Newcastle United from the Champions League.

Despite the heavy defeat, Newcastle showed resilience in an entertaining first half, twice equalising through Anthony Elanga after early goals from Raphinha and Marc Bernal.

Eddie Howe’s side remained in contention at the break, even though Lamine Yamal converted a penalty in stoppage time to give Barcelona a 3-2 advantage.

Newcastle were left to rue defensive lapses, having conceded early when Raphinha finished neatly after combining with Fermin Lopez.

Elanga restored parity for the visitors from close range after connecting with Lewis Hall’s cross, but Barcelona quickly responded as Gerard Martin set up Bernal to score past Aaron Ramsdale.

The visitors continued to fight, with Elanga grabbing his second from Harvey Barnes’ delivery to level the score again in a thrilling contest.

Barcelona, however, regained the lead before halftime through Yamal’s spot-kick following a VAR decision against Kieran Trippier.

After the break, Barcelona took full control, with Lopez extending the lead before Lewandowski struck twice and Raphinha added another to seal an emphatic victory.
