The National Sports Commission (NSC) has hailed Nigeria’s U-18 women’s basketball team, the Junior D’Tigress, for qualifying for the 2027 FIBA U-19 Women’s World Cup in China.
The team secured the ticket after a 53–50 semi-final win over hosts Côte d’Ivoire at the FIBA U-19 AfroBasket, also booking a place in Sunday’s final against Mali.
NSC Director-General, Mr. Bukola Olopade, praised the girls for their resilience and commended the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) for the steady progress of the national teams.
He said the team’s qualification reflects their commitment and discipline, expressing confidence they can also win the AfroBasket final.
Olopade assured that the NSC will work with the NBBF to ensure strong preparation and support ahead of the World Cup in China.
