LASUBEB Intensifies Safety Standard In Public Schools, Trains Education Officers

The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), has organised a one-day capacity-building programme on Environmental, Social Safeguards and Best Practices in public primary schools for key education officers across the state.
The programme aimed to strengthen the capacity of Basic Education Quality Assurance Officers, Heads of Sections in Local Government Education Authorities and school administrators to identify and manage environmental and social risks in school operations and infrastructure, in line with safeguard standards.

Speaking at the programme, LASUBEB Executive Chairman, Dr. Hakeem Babatunde Shittu, represented by Dr. Sherifat Abiodun Adedoyin, said environmental and social safeguards are essential to quality basic education and must be integrated into planning, implementation and monitoring.
She noted that LASUBEB is committed not only to infrastructure and learning materials, but also to safe, healthy and inclusive learning environments, urging officers to proactively address risks.
Dr. Adedoyin also highlighted sanitation, child protection, health and safety, social inclusion, anti-discrimination and community engagement as key priorities, urging participants to apply the knowledge gained.
Facilitator Mr. Obanla Akindele provided practical guidance on applying safeguard principles in schools and offices.
The workshop reaffirmed government commitment to embedding safeguards in public primary schools to ensure safer and more sustainable learning environments and improve education quality across Lagos State.
