The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has hailed the Super Falcons for booking a place in the quarter-finals of the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), while urging the team to remain focused on securing qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Gusau praised the players for their resilience, consistency and impressive performances throughout the tournament, describing their progress to the knockout stage as a reflection of the fighting spirit that has long defined Nigerian football.
He urged the players and technical crew to sustain their momentum as the competition enters its decisive phase, stressing that beyond winning the continental title, the team must also keep its sights on earning a place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
According to him, the Super Falcons have once again demonstrated why they remain one of the dominant forces in African women’s football.
“Reaching the quarter-finals is commendable, but the task ahead is even greater,” Gusau said. “We believe in this team’s ability to go all the way and also secure qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.”
Meanwhile, the National Sports Commission (NSC) has announced a cash reward of ₦10 million for every goal scored by the Super Falcons in their 6-2 victory over Egypt, bringing the total bonus to ₦60 million.
The commission said the incentive was designed to motivate the players to produce an attacking display in the crucial Group C encounter.
With a quarter-final clash now awaiting the nine-time African champions, the reward further highlights the growing support for the team as they continue their quest for another WAFCON title and a place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
