Nigeria’s athletics star Tobi Amusan is one race away from Commonwealth Games history after winning her women’s 100m hurdles heat on Thursday.
The world record holder ran 12.19 seconds to beat South Africa’s Marione Fourie (12.50s) and Jamaica’s Kerrica Hill (12.69s), qualifying for the final at 9:49 p.m. at Scotstoun Stadium.
With a +3.8m/s tailwind, Amusan led from the start and cleared the hurdles comfortably, reinforcing her status as favourite.
She is chasing a third straight Commonwealth Games 100m hurdles title after wins in 2018 and 2022.
The 28-year-old became Nigeria’s first World Athletics champion in 2022 and still holds the world record of 12.12s, alongside multiple Diamond League and African titles.
In strong form this season, her heat performance suggests she is well placed for another gold.
Her success has also boosted Nigeria’s medal tally, which stands at 14 (seven gold, five silver, two bronze) across several sports.
Attention now turns to the final, where Amusan aims to make history again.
