The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has urged personnel of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) to properly maintain newly commissioned staff accommodation in Nyanya, Abuja, saying responsible use of the facility would ensure it serves officers for many years.
Matawalle gave the charge on Thursday while commissioning a 20-unit one-bedroom staff accommodation built by the DIA as part of efforts to improve the welfare of personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
The minister described decent housing as essential to the well-being and effectiveness of military personnel, noting that improved accommodation would boost morale, enhance operational efficiency and strengthen commitment to duty.
“Accommodation remains one of the most critical needs of our personnel. A comfortable home is not a luxury but a necessity. It provides peace of mind, enhances morale, and improves efficiency and dedication to duty,” Matawalle said.
He said the project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at addressing accommodation deficits within the Armed Forces and improving the welfare of troops.
Matawalle commended the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Lt.-Gen. Emmanuel Undiandeye, for initiating the project, describing it as a significant achievement that reflects the agency’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel.
The minister also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for prioritising the welfare and operational effectiveness of the Armed Forces, assuring the DIA of the Ministry of Defence’s continued support in delivering on its national security mandate.
He urged beneficiaries of the accommodation to ensure proper maintenance of the facility.
“Responsible use of this accommodation will guarantee its longevity and continued service to personnel,” he said.
