NITDA has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s higher education sector through investments in digital infrastructure, innovation and skills development as it considers a partnership with the Federal University of Environment and Technology (FUET), Ogoni, Rivers State.
The commitment was made during a visit by FUET management, led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Prince Chinedu Mmom, to NITDA’s headquarters in Abuja. Discussions focused on developing a digital ecosystem to support teaching, research and talent development.
Representing NITDA Director-General Kashifu Inuwa, the Director of Digital Literacy and Capacity Building, Mr. Oladejo Olawunmi, said the agency remains committed to supporting tertiary institutions with infrastructure and human capital to drive Nigeria’s digital transformation.
He highlighted NITDA’s initiatives, including IT Community Centres, IT Parks, Innovation Hubs and digital literacy programmes, which align with the National Digital Literacy Framework to equip graduates with globally competitive skills.
Olawunmi assured FUET that NITDA would consider its requests and continue partnerships that promote innovation, digital inclusion, research and workforce development.
Earlier, Prof. Mmom described FUET as a specialised institution established to advance environmental sustainability, science, technology and innovation. He said the university has secured approval to begin academic activities across six faculties but faces challenges with inadequate ICT infrastructure.
He appealed to NITDA for support with computers, digital laboratories, internet connectivity and capacity-building initiatives to strengthen technology education and prepare students for the digital economy.
