Spain have booked their place in the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a commanding 2-0 victory over France.
In the first semi-final, played at the Dallas Stadium on Tuesday, Spain scored once in each half to end France’s hopes of reaching a third consecutive World Cup final.
The Spaniards took the lead in the 22nd minute when Mikel Oyarzabal calmly converted a penalty after Lamine Yamal was fouled inside the box by Lucas Digne.
Didier Deschamps’ side, widely regarded as one of the favourites to win the tournament, struggled to break down the Spanish defence as Spain carried their one-goal advantage into half-time.
France’s hopes of a comeback were effectively ended in the 58th minute when defender Pedro Porro doubled Spain’s lead, finishing off a well-worked move set up by Dani Olmo.
The victory sends Spain into their first World Cup final since 2010, when they won the title in South Africa after defeating the Netherlands 1-0.
Spain will now face the winner of Wednesday’s second semi-final between defending champions Argentina and England as they bid to lift the World Cup trophy for a second time.
