The Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa, has described the newly inaugurated NITDA Community IT Centre in Benue State as a catalyst for transformation that will empower residents with digital skills and enable them to participate meaningfully in the digital economy.
Inuwa made the remark during the commissioning of the Community IT Centre in Ihugh, Vandeikya Local Government Area, by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. He noted that the facility would serve as a hub for learning, innovation and enterprise development in the state.
According to him, the centre will provide students, entrepreneurs and farmers with opportunities to leverage emerging technologies to enhance productivity, drive innovation and improve economic outcomes. He stressed that access to digital tools is critical for building a knowledge-driven society.
The NITDA boss highlighted the benefits of technology in agriculture, explaining that farmers can utilize data-driven solutions such as weather forecasting, soil analysis and precision farming techniques to improve yields, reduce losses and increase profitability.
He also outlined NITDA’s broader interventions in Benue State, including the establishment of a Community ICT Centre in Wannune, the creation of nine Digital Learning Centres across the state, and the training of more than 13,300 residents through various digital literacy and skills development programmes.
Speaking at the event, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia described the project as a landmark intervention that would create new opportunities in education, innovation, entrepreneurship and employment. He assured stakeholders of the state government’s commitment to providing the necessary infrastructure and support to ensure the centre’s sustainability.
The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, described the facility as a strategic investment in human capital development and digital empowerment. She said the initiative would equip citizens with the skills and opportunities needed to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world.
Tinubu also commended NITDA for its partnership with the Renewed Hope Initiative in expanding access to digital infrastructure, particularly in underserved communities. The commissioning of the Ihugh Community IT Centre, she noted, underscores ongoing efforts to bridge the digital divide and promote inclusive economic growth across Nigeria.
