Nigeria’s Super Eagles delivered a commanding performance on Saturday at the Valley Stadium in London, defeating Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz 3-0 to successfully retain the Unity Cup title.
The Eagles, who secured a 2-0 victory over Zimbabwe in the semi-finals, produced another impressive display to overcome the Jamaicans, who had booked their place in the final with a similar 2-0 win against India.
Head coach Eric Chelle retained the same starting lineup that defeated Zimbabwe, as he continued his efforts to rebuild and strengthen the national team.
Nigeria took the lead as early as the third minute through Alhassan Yusuf, who capitalized on a bright start by the Super Eagles.
Captain Terem Moffi doubled Nigeria’s advantage in the 59th minute before Yusuf completed his brace deep into stoppage time to seal a convincing victory for the three-time African champions.
The triumph marked Nigeria’s second consecutive Unity Cup success against Jamaica. The Super Eagles had defeated the Reggae Boyz on penalties in last year’s final after both sides played out a draw in regulation time.
