Despite securing a comfortable victory over the Warriors of Zimbabwe, Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has insisted that his players must continue to work hard and improve.
Nigeria defeated Zimbabwe 2-0 in the semi-final of the Unity Cup in London, courtesy of a brace from debutant Femi Azeez.
As the Super Eagles prepare to face Jamaica in a repeat of last year’s final, Chelle stressed that the performance against Zimbabwe was only part of the team’s rebuilding process ahead of more important assignments.
“This is only a friendly game. This is not the World Cup qualifier. They need to work hard,” Chelle said after the match.
“They need to try to understand what I want, what the technical staff want, and the high level is difficult.”
The Malian tactician also pointed out areas where the team must improve despite the convincing victory.
“So you see, we made some mistakes with the ball. For sure, tomorrow we work out,” he added.
The Super Eagles will now shift their attention to the Unity Cup final as Chelle continues to assess his squad and implement his tactical philosophy ahead of future competitive fixtures.
