Nigeria’s U-17 national team, the Flamingos, delivered a commanding performance on Saturday with an emphatic 5-0 victory over Guinea in the first leg of their second-round qualifier for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The encounter, played at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan, saw the Nigerian girls dominate proceedings from start to finish, with captain Harmony Chidi producing a sensational individual display.
Chidi wasted no time in making her mark, opening the scoring with the very first kick of the game to hand the Bankole Olowookere-led side an immediate advantage.
The prolific forward doubled Nigeria’s lead in the 13th minute with a superb long-range strike, putting the Flamingos firmly in control early in the contest.
Nigeria’s attacking dominance continued as FC Robo Queens striker Oluwakemi Adegbuyi added a third goal in the 37th minute to further compound Guinea’s woes.
Just three minutes later, Chidi completed her hat-trick with a composed finish, capping off a brilliant first-half performance by the Flamingos.
The Nigerian side maintained their intensity after the restart, and Mary Dunstan added the fifth goal in the 56th minute to seal a comprehensive victory for the visitors.
The result gives the Flamingos a huge advantage ahead of the return leg scheduled for next Saturday in Ikenne-Remo, as Nigeria move closer to securing a place at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
