Arsenal F.C. star Bukayo Saka has once again expressed pride in his Nigerian heritage after a resurfaced interview clip gained widespread attention on social media.
In the interview with BBC, the England international introduced himself using his full Yoruba name and reflected on how his upbringing shaped his character and values.
“My name is Bukayo Moses Ayoyinka Temidayo Saka. I am very proud of it,” the 24-year-old said. “Both my parents grew up in Nigeria, so many of their values have been instilled in me.”
Born in Ealing to Nigerian parents, Saka explained that his cultural roots continue to play a major role in defining his identity, despite representing England at international level.
His parents, Adenike and Yomi Saka, are of Yoruba heritage with family ties to Kwara State and Ogun State. His first name, “Bukayo,” is commonly interpreted as “adds to happiness,” while his other Yoruba names also carry deep cultural and spiritual meanings.
The clip, which resurfaced online on May 20, 2026, featured an image of Saka smiling during a visit to Nigeria, further highlighting his connection to the country and its culture.
