Goal Difference Hands Sporting Lagos NNL Super Four Trophy

Sporting Lagos emerged champions of the 2026 Nigeria National League Super Four after edging local rivals Inter Lagos on goal difference following a dramatic final day at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo.

The “Noisy Lagosians” entered Matchday Three needing only a draw to secure the title. Although they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Inter Lagos in the much-anticipated Lagos derby, their impressive performances in earlier matches proved decisive.

Sporting Lagos finished top of the standings with six points from three matches. They began their campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ranchers Bees before producing a dominant 4-0 win against Doma United on Matchday Two.

Inter Lagos also ended the competition with six points after losing 1-0 to Doma United in their opening game, defeating Ranchers Bees 1-0, and overcoming Sporting Lagos by the same margin in the final match.

However, Sporting Lagos claimed the trophy and the accompanying ₦10 million prize money due to their superior goal difference, having scored more goals across the tournament.

Ranchers Bees and Doma United finished third and fourth respectively, as all four clubs confirmed their places in the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season following successful promotion campaigns.

For Sporting Lagos, the Super Four triumph represents another significant milestone in the club’s rapid rise since its establishment and underlines its ambition ahead of life in the top flight.

Inter Lagos, Ranchers Bees, and Doma United will also take positives from the tournament as they prepare for the demands of the NPFL season.

The final day in Ikenne delivered excitement, tension, and quality football, bringing an entertaining Super Four competition to a fitting conclusion and raising expectations for an exciting 2026/27 NPFL campaign.
