SDP Offers Policy-Driven Alternative Ahead of 2027 — Adebayo

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has declared that his party represents the only true ideological opposition in Nigeria as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking with journalists, Adebayo argued that opposition politics in Nigeria has often been wrongly framed along ethnic and religious lines, rather than being driven by clear policy alternatives and national interest.

He maintained that the SDP stands apart due to its consistent commitment to social democratic ideals, which he said are firmly rooted in the Nigerian Constitution and the party’s manifesto.

The SDP chieftain also criticized what he described as “transactional opposition” driven by personalities and short-term political gains, insisting that his party is focused on long-term national development.

Addressing concerns about the party’s visibility, Adebayo said the SDP is prioritizing grassroots mobilization over media hype, noting that the party has continued to record steady membership growth through its digital registration drive.

He acknowledged that lessons from the 2023 elections, including low voter turnout and logistical challenges, have helped shape the party’s renewed political strategy ahead of 2027.

On the issue of vote buying, Adebayo warned that the growing influence of money in politics poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s democracy and economic stability, stressing that the SDP is committed to voter education and informed decision-making.

He identified security, prudent management of public finances, and job creation as key priorities, adding that Nigeria’s future depends on moving away from personality-driven politics toward a system built on fairness, accountability, and social investment.
