2026 Budget: Akinpelu Anchors Alimosho’s Development Drive On WISE Agenda

 

 

 

The Chairman of Alimosho Local Government in Lagos State, Johnson Akinpelu, has officially declared open the 2026 Budget and Annual Procurement Retreat in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The retreat convened top government officials, procurement officers, heads of departments, development partners and key stakeholders to deliberate on the fiscal priorities and governance direction of the local government ahead of the 2026 fiscal year.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman described the retreat as a defining moment in Alimosho’s governance journey, stressing that the outcomes of the deliberations would shape grassroots development and directly impact the lives of millions of residents.

He explained that the 2026 budget, themed Budget of Restoration and Renewed Progress,” reflects the administration’s commitment to rebuilding public trust, restoring confidence in governance, and accelerating inclusive development across the local government.

According to him, the budget is designed to restore dignity to grassroots governance, rehabilitate critical infrastructure and revive economic opportunities for youths, women and artisans. He added that rebuilding community confidence requires responsive, transparent and accountable governance structures capable of delivering tangible results.

Beyond restoration, Akinpelu noted that the 2026 fiscal plan is focused on renewing progress that is sustainable, equitable and measurable across all wards in Alimosho. He reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to ensure that governance is felt in every household and that development outcomes are visible, inclusive and impactful.

The Chairman further disclosed that the budget is firmly anchored on the administration’s WISE Agenda, which provides the framework for policy formulation and resource allocation. The agenda prioritises Welfare, Infrastructure, Service Delivery and Empowerment, with initiatives including the Ounje Alimosho half-price food market, strategic infrastructure projects to stimulate economic growth, improved service delivery, and targeted empowerment programmes for youths and women.

Addressing participants at the Annual Procurement Retreat, Akinpelu underscored the critical role of procurement in achieving development objectives, describing it as the bedrock of effective public service delivery. He noted that transparent and professional procurement accelerates development, while compromised processes erode public trust and undermine progress.

He charged procurement officers and stakeholders to uphold due process, competitive bidding, proper documentation, fairness and value for money, in line with national and global best practices. He stressed that every kobo spent must deliver real value to Alimosho communities and align with the THEMES+ development agenda of the Lagos State Government.

The Chairman encouraged participants to actively engage in discussions by sharing experiences, asking questions and embracing innovative ideas capable of strengthening the local government’s procurement framework. He also commended the organisers and facilitators for their commitment to capacity building and the promotion of ethical standards in public service.
