Lagos Moves To Implement LGDP Across All 57 LGAs, LCDAs For Grassroots Development
The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, has commenced moves to extend the Local Government Development Plan (LGDP) across all 57 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, disclosed this during the inauguration of the Technical Working Committee (TWC) on the LGDP, held at the Ministry’s conference room.
She explained that the committee is tasked with identifying priorities, setting targets, guiding budgeting, attracting development partners, and strengthening citizen participation at the grassroots level.
Bolarinwa noted that the LGDP would enhance the viability of LGAs and LCDAs, while also improving the visibility of infrastructural projects and other development initiatives across the councils.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of Conference 57 and Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki LCDA, Engr. Sesan Olowa, commended the Lagos State Government for the initiative. He said the LGDP would help harmonise various development plans into a unified framework for sustainable infrastructural growth.
Olowa also assured that members of the committee would work closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the development plan.
Also speaking, a representative of the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget (MEPB), Mr. Olowonisaye Saheed, described the LGDP as a long-awaited initiative, noting that the concept dates back to 2014, adding that the ministry had previously collaborated with planning units across LGAs and LCDAs on similar development frameworks.
He reaffirmed the readiness of the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget to partner with the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, alongside other stakeholders, to ensure the successful formulation and execution of the LGDP.
Dignitaries at the event included representatives of Conference 57 of Local Governments and Council Development Areas, the Body of Council Managers, and Heads of Departments (HODs) for Planning and Budget across LGAs and LCDAs, as well as directors and staff of the ministry.
