Atletico Madrid forward Ademola Lookman has climbed to third place on Nigeria’s all-time top scorers list in the UEFA Champions League.
Lookman, who joined the Spanish giants during the mid-season transfer window, scored the decisive goal that secured Atletico Madrid’s place in the semi-finals at the expense of Barcelona.
His crucial strike in last Tuesday night’s clash against Barca took the Super Eagles star’s total tally to eight goals in Europe’s premier club competition.
With this feat, he has overtaken Victor Ikpeba, who previously held third place with seven goals.
Lookman is now just one goal behind Obafemi Martins, who occupies second place with nine goals.
Victor Osimhen, with 16 goals, remains Nigeria’s all-time leading scorer in the competition.
Lookman could surpass Martins and potentially close in on Osimhen as Atletico Madrid continue their campaign, with a semi-final fixture against Arsenal next on the horizon.
