LASTMA Urges Drivers To Embrace Traffic Rules, Intensifies Advocacy

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) on Thursday intensified its traffic advocacy with an engagement involving transport unions and stakeholders in Ikeja.

The initiative promotes voluntary compliance, responsible road use and collaboration alongside enforcement.

Officials sensitised union members on traffic rules, disciplined driving, proper loading/off-loading, responsible parking and avoiding congestion-causing behaviour.

LASTMA stressed that transport operators are key partners in ensuring order, safety and efficiency on Lagos roads.

Drivers were urged to avoid illegal parking, U-turns, lane obstruction, reckless overtaking, unauthorised stops and driving against traffic.

The session also allowed union leaders to raise concerns, while LASTMA clarified regulations, enforcement procedures and complaint channels.

General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said effective traffic management depends on enforcement, engagement and stakeholder collaboration, noting unions’ role in driver discipline.

“Our objective is to promote understanding, responsibility and voluntary compliance. Transport operators are vital to traffic flow and road safety in Lagos,” he said.

He urged unions to regularly sensitise members on traffic laws and penalties.

LASTMA also called on road users to see traffic rules as safety measures that protect lives and ensure smooth movement.
