No Imposition, No Refunds: Lagos APC Sets Ground Rules For Primaries Ahead Of 2027
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that it has no preferred or “anointed” candidate for any elective position, including the governorship, urging all interested members to freely contest in line with the law.
The position was made known in a statement issued on Wednesday by the State Chairman of the party, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, via his official Facebook page.
Ojelabi explained that, in accordance with the provisions of the 2026 Electoral Act, the party would adopt direct primaries as its first option for selecting candidates. He added that consensus arrangements would also be encouraged where they are voluntarily reached and widely accepted by all stakeholders.
He, however, stressed that nomination and administrative fees paid by aspirants would not be refunded under any circumstances.
“As a progressive party, we will provide a level playing field for all members to contest positions of their choice in a free, fair, and transparent manner that will produce genuine representatives of the people,” he said.
The chairman further noted that, in line with the party’s commitment to inclusivity and gender equity, special consideration would be given to popular and influential female aspirants in relevant constituencies to enhance their participation.
Ojelabi urged all aspirants and party members to adhere strictly to the rules, emphasizing that the party would not impose candidates or interfere with the outcome of the primaries.
“As a party with strong structures, we remain committed to the principles of internal democracy. We encourage all members to conduct themselves with dignity, discipline, and mutual respect as we await official guidelines from the national body,” he added.
