Former Senator Ibrahim Oloriegbe, has declared his intention to contest the governorship of Kwara State under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Olorie, who represented Kwara Central in the Senate from 2019 to 2023, made the declaration in a letter of intent addressed to party leadership, citing deep reflection, prayer, and wide consultations with stakeholders.
He said the decision was informed by the need for experienced and capable leadership to drive the next phase of development in the state, noting that the moment demands proven capacity and the ability to deliver results.
The former lawmaker highlighted his over four decades of experience across the private, public, and international development sectors, including his early medical career at Albarka Clinic and the establishment of Oloriegbe Clinic in Ilorin.
He added that he has managed large-scale health development projects across Nigeria and Africa, delivering impactful programmes, particularly for women and children in vulnerable communities.
Oloriegbe also outlined his public service record, having served as Majority Leader in the Kwara State House of Assembly and later as Senator, where he chaired the Senate Committee on Health and co-chaired the National Assembly Joint Committee on Health. He chaired the NHIA Governing Council.
He noted that his legislative contributions include championing the NHIA Act (2022), which expanded health insurance coverage, as well as the Mental Health Act (2021), which replaced the outdated Lunacy Act and strengthened mental healthcare delivery.
He further cited his role in facilitating key federal health institutions in Kwara State and said his ambition is driven by a desire to improve security, strengthen institutions, and expand opportunities for residents, adding that he remains ready to serve with humility and commitment.
