Nigeria Eyes 2031 African Games As AUSC Delegates Arrive March 30 For Key Inspection
The National Sports Commission (NSC) has confirmed Nigeria’s intention to host the 2031 African Games, as delegates from the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) are set to arrive in the country for an official inspection tour.
The high-level visit will take place in Abuja from March 30 to 31, 2026, marking a significant step in Nigeria’s bid to secure the hosting rights for Africa’s premier multi-sport event.
According to the NSC, the bid aligns with Nigeria’s strategic vision to strengthen its position as a leading sporting nation on the continent.
The Commission highlighted the country’s proven track record in hosting major international competitions, alongside ongoing investments in sports infrastructure and development, as key advantages.
During the inspection, AUSC delegates will evaluate critical sporting facilities, supporting infrastructure, and Nigeria’s overall readiness to host the Games.
The visit will also provide an opportunity for Nigeria to showcase its organisational capacity, technical expertise, and commitment to delivering a world-class event.
The delegation includes senior officials and technical experts tasked with assessing bidding nations based on established standards for hosting the African Games.
