APC Commends Lagos Govt Over Return Of Monthly Sanitation Exercise

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has welcomed the decision of the Lagos State Government to reintroduce the monthly environmental sanitation exercise across the state, describing the move as a demonstration of responsible governance.

In a statement issued on Monday, the party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, said the policy reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding public health, promoting environmental cleanliness and encouraging community participation in maintaining a livable city.

Oladejo noted that Lagos, being one of Africa’s fastest-growing megacities, requires a collective effort from residents and authorities to ensure environmental sustainability and proper waste management.

According to him, the return of the sanitation exercise highlights the determination of the state government to uphold high environmental standards while encouraging residents to take responsibility for keeping their surroundings clean.

He recalled that the environmental sanitation programme had for decades played a crucial role in promoting a culture of cleanliness and civic responsibility among residents.

Oladejo added that reviving the exercise would help tackle sanitation challenges while raising awareness about proper waste disposal, drainage maintenance and overall environmental hygiene.

The APC spokesperson said the initiative represents another step by the state government to strengthen preventive public health measures, reduce environmental hazards and protect communities from sanitation-related risks.

He therefore urged residents, community development associations, market groups, youth organisations and civil society stakeholders to support the initiative, noting that its success depends on the active participation of all Lagosians.

Oladejo expressed confidence that the policy would contribute to the continued transformation of Lagos into a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable megacity.
