The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed comments made by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) accusing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of engaging in early political campaigns ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Friday by the party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, the APC described the ADC’s remarks as “infantile ranting” from a party it claimed lacks political relevance and credibility.
“For clarity, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is governing Nigeria, not campaigning. But we understand why the ADC is confused: leadership is a language they neither understand nor speak,” Oladejo said.
The Lagos APC spokesperson criticized the ADC for what he described as attempts to “weaponize insecurity for cheap political mileage,” noting that the President has been actively engaging national security challenges through personnel deployment, expanded intelligence infrastructure, and direct oversight of rescue and response efforts.
“A party that has never contributed one actionable idea to national security should not insult Nigerians by pretending to care now,” he said.
Oladejo also accused the ADC of political opportunism, saying the party has no structure, no national influence, and no track record of electoral success, adding that the party’s frequent commentary on the 2027 elections is evidence of its “addiction to irrelevance.”
“It is always amusing that a party struggling for survival is the one crying most loudly about 2027. Only parties with no pathway to power carry election fever two years ahead,” he added.
The APC challenged the ADC to demonstrate basic political viability before commenting on national affairs, including winning a polling unit in Lagos or conducting an internal congress without internal disputes.
Oladejo maintained that no amount of criticism from opposition parties would distract President Tinubu from his mandate to restore security and stabilize the country, saying “Nigeria is moving forward with or without the approval of political spectators”.
