The Lagos State Number Plate Production Authority (LSNPPA) has cautioned motorists against cleaning their vehicle number plates with chemically concentrated substances, warning that such materials can cause irreversible damage.
Managing Director of LSNPPA, Mr. Olayanju Olayinka Cole, issued the advisory during a courtesy visit by the General Manager/Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA), Mr. Afolabi Solebo. The visit formed part of ongoing efforts to protect the rights of motorists in Lagos State.
Cole specifically warned against the use of aromatic solvents, alcohol-based spirits, acetone, petrol, brake oil, kerosene, and abrasive materials, stressing that these substances can fade inscriptions and compromise the integrity of number plates.
The meeting also addressed growing concerns over faded and damaged number plates and the need for motorists to procure new, standard plates to replace old or defective ones issued by the Lagos State Government.
The engagement followed an earlier meeting held two weeks ago between LASCOPA and the Permanent Secretary, Motor Vehicle Administration, Mr. Rasheed Muri-Okunola, aimed at resolving related challenges affecting motorists across the state.
Emphasising the importance of proper maintenance, the LSNPPA boss reminded motorists that “your number plate is your identity on the road,” urging them to handle it with care.
In his remarks, Solebo reaffirmed LASCOPA’s commitment to safeguarding consumer and motorist rights, assuring residents of continued collaboration with relevant agencies to enhance service delivery across Lagos State.
