Makinde Says Merit-Based Governance, Development Roadmap Will Sustain Oyo Beyond 2027
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has said his administration had entrenched a merit-based system of governance and developed a roadmap to sustain the state’s development beyond 2027.
Makinde made the disclosure on Thursday at a lecture and symposium organised as part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of Oyo State, held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.
The event, themed “Consolidating the Legacy, Navigating the Present, and Reimagining the Future,” attracted government officials, academics, policymakers and other stakeholders who reflected on the state’s developmental journey over the past 50 years.
The governor said public trust informed his decision to unveil a development roadmap shortly after assuming office in 2019, stressing that accountability remains central to his administration.
He disclosed that over 75 per cent of the targets set in the roadmap have been achieved, adding that a merit-based governance structure has been institutionalised to endure beyond individuals and political tenures.
Makinde also revealed that work is ongoing on a long-term development framework aimed at guiding Oyo State’s growth beyond the lifespan of his administration.
In his goodwill message, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, congratulated the state on its Golden Jubilee and commended its use of the anniversary to reflect on governance, development and nation-building.
Delivering the keynote lecture, Professor Olu Ajakaiye praised the Makinde administration for restoring a culture of planning and continuity, noting that Oyo State’s future development must be deliberately planned and sustained.
