Ogbomosoland Loses Illustrious Son As Ashipa Pays Tribute To Late Colonel Adeniran
The Ashipa of Ogbomosoland, Barrister Olusegun Adekunle, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of retired Colonel Adegboyega Adeniran, a Nigerian Civil War hero, describing him as a patriot whose life was marked by courage, service and unwavering commitment to community development.
Colonel Adeniran died in the early hours of Thursday, January 16, 2026, at the age of 87.
In a condolence statement, Chief Adekunle recalled the late officer’s close bond with his uncle, the late Brigadier General Benjamin Maja Adekunle, highlighting their mutual respect and solidarity during pivotal moments in their military careers.
He described both men as illustrious sons of Ogbomosoland, whose gallantry and selfless service brought honour to their homeland during a critical period in Nigeria’s history.
Beyond his military accomplishments, Chief Adekunle noted that Colonel Adeniran made enduring contributions to the development of Ogbomosoland, particularly in the education sector, where he supported and helped establish schools that continue to serve generations of students.
