At Christmas Service, Abiodun Projects Smooth 2027 Succession, Touts Economic Growth

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has assured residents that his administration will deliver a seamless, peaceful and rancour-free transition at the end of his second term in 2027, pledging to set a historic benchmark in the state’s governance.

The governor gave the assurance on Thursday during the Christmas church service at St. James’ Anglican Church, Iperu-Remo, in Ikenne Local Government Area, stating that his administration is determined to be the first in Ogun State’s history to successfully hand over power without acrimony.

Abiodun expressed confidence that his tenure would end strongly, adding that he hopes to attend both his send-forth ceremony and the swearing-in of his successor. He attributed this confidence to what he described as solid governance, economic expansion and people-centred development recorded under his leadership.

According to the governor, Ogun State’s economy has grown significantly since he assumed office, with the annual budget expanding from about ₦355 billion to over ₦2.7 trillion. He said the growth reflects rising economic activities, investor confidence, job creation, school reconstruction, agricultural empowerment and expanding opportunities for residents.

Abiodun reaffirmed his commitment to continue using his office to serve the people and glorify God through impactful projects, citing the Gateway International Airport and other key infrastructure across the three senatorial districts as enduring legacies of his administration.

He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as purposeful leadership under the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting signs of national stabilisation, including improved fuel availability, easing inflationary pressures and a more stable foreign exchange regime.

Reflecting on the significance of Christmas, the governor said the season goes beyond celebration, emphasising love, peace and compassion for the vulnerable. He urged residents to live Christ-like lives, give generously to others, celebrate moderately and avoid excesses.

In his sermon titled “Christmas Is God’s Best Gift to You,” the Vicar, Venerable Tolulope Akinwande, described Christmas as the season God gave Himself to humanity through Jesus Christ. He urged believers to embrace Christ’s sacrifice, live transformed lives, and prayed that Governor Abiodun’s tenure would end better than it began.
