Jeremy Doku struck twice including a dramatic 97th-minute equaliser as Manchester City rescued a thrilling 3-3 draw against Everton, a result that dents the title ambitions of Pep Guardiola’s side.
The pulsating encounter at Hill Dickinson Stadium leaves City five points behind leaders Arsenal, albeit with a game in hand. However, Mikel Arteta’s men now firmly control their title destiny.
City dominated much of the first half but struggled to break down a resilient Everton defence until Jeremy Doku produced a moment of brilliance three minutes before the break, curling an unstoppable effort into the top corner.
Everton responded strongly after the interval and deservedly levelled in the 68th minute. Thierno Barry capitalised on a poor backpass from Marc Guehi that caught Gianluigi Donnarumma off guard.
Although initially flagged offside, the goal was awarded following a VAR review.
Buoyed by the equaliser, David Moyes’s side took control and went ahead five minutes later through Jake O’Brien, who powered home a header from James Garner’s corner.
Everton extended their lead soon after, with Barry grabbing his second goal by finishing off a well-worked move from Merlin Rohl’s precise pass.
City mounted a late comeback as Erling Haaland reduced the deficit with seven minutes remaining. Then, deep into stoppage time, Doku delivered the decisive moment, cutting in from the left and firing home a superb equaliser to deny Everton a famous victory.
