Security First: Lagos APC Commends Tinubu’s Bold ₦5.41trn Allocation In 2026 Budget
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the presentation of the 2026 Appropriation Bill, particularly applauding the proposed ₦5.41 trillion allocation to the security sector.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the party’s spokesman, Mr. Seye Oladejo, the Lagos APC described the security allocation as a deliberate and unprecedented commitment that reflects the administration’s clear understanding of Nigeria’s current challenges and its determination to secure the country’s future.
According to the party, the 2026 Budget is anchored on intentional governance, with priorities that address the realities facing Nigerians. Oladejo noted that security, as the foremost responsibility of government, has been given deserved prominence, not as a reactionary move but as a strategic investment in national stability, economic confidence and social cohesion.
He explained that the primary objective of the 2026 Budget is to consolidate existing security gains, protect lives and property, and create a stable environment for economic recovery and sustainable growth. The statement emphasised that the proposed allocation recognises the fact that meaningful development cannot thrive in the absence of peace and safety.
The Lagos APC highlighted key areas the security funding is expected to address, including capacity enhancement for the armed forces and other security agencies, improved intelligence gathering and inter-agency collaboration, modernisation of equipment and operational logistics, as well as the welfare and motivation of security personnel.
Describing the allocation as a protection of national assets rather than mere expenditure, the party stated that the security focus aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, reinforcing the interdependence of security, economic growth and national development.
The party also urged Nigerians, stakeholders and members of the National Assembly to assess the 2026 Budget from the standpoint of national interest rather than partisan considerations, stressing that the proposal reflects resolve and clarity of purpose.
While commending President Tinubu for what it described as his foresight and courage, the Lagos APC said the budget signals a shift from emergency responses to structured and forward-looking solutions.
The party reaffirmed its support for policies and programmes aimed at strengthening national security, boosting the economy and restoring hope to Nigerians.
