Political earthquake in Taraba: Speaker, House Leaders, PDP Lawmakers Join APC

Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Hon. John Bonzena, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), ahead of the widely anticipated defection of Governor Agbu Kefas to the ruling party.

The development took place on Monday, with all principal officers of the Assembly and PDP lawmakers joining Bonzena in the mass defection.

Viral video circulating online show the legislators exchanging their traditional caps for APC-branded ones bearing the insignia of President Bola Tinubu. They were also handed brooms, the official symbol of the APC.

Governor Kefas had earlier confirmed his intention to leave the PDP during a chat with journalists on Saturday. He described the move as one driven by the “destiny of Taraba people,” noting that he expects a large turnout for his formal declaration.

“There is going to be a major shift and alignment on November 19,” the governor said, adding “I will officially transition from PDP to APC. It is a movement that has to do with the destiny of Taraba people.”

The wave of defections marks one of the most significant political realignments in Taraba State in recent years.
