Nigeria Loses Veteran Journalist Dan Agbese at 81

 

 

Veteran journalist and Co-Founder of Newswatch magazine, Dan Agbede, has died.

The renowned columnist reportedly died on Monday morning in Lagos, at age 81.

Alongside Dele Giwa, Ray Ekpu and Yakubu Mohammed, Dan Agbese joined in co-founding Newswatch in 1984, although its first edition hit the newsstands on 28th January 1985.

Prior to founding the magazine, Agbese was former Editor of The Nigerian Standard and New Nigerian.

Additionally, he was General Manager of Radio Benue.

Until April 2010, Agbese was the Editor-in-Chief of the Newswatch magazine.

He held degrees in Mass Communication and Journalism from the University of Lagos and Columbia University, New York, respectively.

He was also the Author of several acclaimed books, including Nigeria, Their NigeriaFellow Nigerians; The Reporter’s Companion, Style: A Guide to Good Writing and The Columnist’s Companion: The Art and Craft of Column Writing.
