Oke Amu Community Marks 2025 Day Celebration with Unity, Progress, New Leadership
The 2025 edition of the Oke Amu Community Day was held on Saturday, November 8, at the Oke Amu Community Hall in Oke Ogun, Oyo State, bringing together sons and daughters of the town from Lagos, Oyo, Iseyin, and across Nigeria.
The modest yet impactful celebration was marked by joy, reflection, and a renewed commitment to the town’s growth and unity.
A major highlight of the occasion was the official confirmation of the completion of the Oke Amu Police Post, a critical security project initiated in 2022.
The event also featured the formal appointment of Elder Bolaji Shitu as the new Chairman of the Oke Amu Community Development Committee (Home and Abroad). His appointment, endorsed by both the national and local executive committees, was widely applauded as a step toward consolidating the town’s development efforts.
In his acceptance speech, Elder Shitu pledged to unite all Oke Amu indigenes, both at home and in the diaspora, in pursuit of sustained development. He emphasized the need for collective effort and regular contributions to community projects aimed at uplifting Oke Amu.
The Olugunwa of Oke Amu Land, HRM Oba Kasali Oyeniyi Omotoso (Fadeyi I), commended indigenes for their consistent support and commitment to the town’s progress. Represented by Chief Salau Adekola, the Ikolaba of Oke Amu, the monarch particularly lauded the Oke Amu Prestige Elite Club for their donations of materials and funds during the construction of the police post.
The Chairman of Itesiwaju Local Government, Hon. Monsuru Olayemi, who was honoured for rebuilding classroom blocks at the Oke Amu L.A. Primary School, announced plans to link the Iseyin–Oke Amu road and grade the Alaganran link road within one year. He also pledged to support the rehabilitation and modernization of the Oke Amu Community Hall.
Olayemi urged residents to remain vigilant against security threats such as banditry and kidnapping while cautioning youths against drug abuse. He also called on parents to take greater responsibility in shaping the moral upbringing of their children.
In recognition of past contributors to community development, the Oke Amu Community Development Committee announced plans to establish a special honours committee that will identify and celebrate both living and departed indigenes who have made outstanding contributions to Oke Amu’s progress ahead of the 2026 celebration.
The Chairman of the Oke Amu Day Celebration Committee, Hon. Akinleye Emmanuel, expressed deep gratitude to all indigenes for their overwhelming generosity during the fundraising programme.
“I am sincerely amazed that our people could donate so generously without any form of coercion. This reflects true patriotism and proves that the long-lost love for our fatherland has been rekindled,” he said, urging continued unity and support for community development.
The event, moderated by Mr. Bello Jimoh, featured cultural performances and community reflections. Bello reaffirmed the community’s resolve to promote education by encouraging parents to re-enroll their children in public schools within Oke Amu, including the L.A. Primary School, to strengthen local education and identity.
He also announced that preparations had begun for a more elaborate 2026 edition, which will feature new development projects and broader participation from Oke Amu indigenes in the diaspora.
The ceremony concluded with glowing tributes to Late Elder Ayoade Adetunji and other departed community leaders for their service and legacy.
