Meet Kate Akomolafe: 69-Year-Old Pig Farmer Who Just Got Admitted to UI’s Distance Learning Centre
A 69-year-old woman, Mrs. Kate Akomolafe, has become a media sensation after being matriculated into the Distance Learning Centre (DLC) of the University of Ibadan (UI).
Akomolafe joined over 5,000 new students who took their matriculation oath for the DLC programme on Friday.
In a post shared on Facebook, the university management described Mrs. Akomolafe as a retired data processing officer with RT Briscoe Motor Company and currently a pig farmer.
According to the post, she also worked as a distributor of baking flour affiliated with the Nigerian Eagle Flour Mills.
Born on December 22, 1956, Akomolafe obtained her West African School Certificate (WASC) in 1976 from Government Secondary School, Creek Road, Port Harcourt.
Determined to fulfil her long-held dream of earning a university degree, she returned to school in 2024 to resit for the WASSCE and the National Examination Council (NECO) examinations, securing the required credits for university admission.
Her inspiring journey has since captured public admiration as a testament to lifelong learning and determination.
