Oyo Govt Issues 14-Day Quit Notice to Illegal Structures Around Obafemi Awolowo Stadium
The Oyo State Government, through the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA), has issued a 14-day ultimatum to owners and occupants of illegal structures, including shanties, kiosks, stalls and ram-selling points, around the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium on Liberty Road, Oke-Ado, Ibadan.
The directive, which takes effect from Tuesday, January 27, 2026, requires all affected persons to vacate the area and remove the unlawful structures within the stipulated period.
The order followed the discovery of numerous makeshift structures erected along the stadium walls and adjoining corridors, stretching from the Liberty Road junction through the Jogor Centre to the High Court Roundabout on Ring Road.
According to OYRLEA, the illegal encroachments pose serious security threats, disrupt urban planning and contribute to environmental degradation in the area.
The enforcement action is being carried out on the directive of Governor Seyi Makinde, who has expressed strong disapproval of the unauthorised developments.
The Chairperson of OYRLEA, Honourable Justice Aderonke Aderemi (retd.), said the authority is determined to restore order, protect public infrastructure and maintain environmental cleanliness.
She explained that the joint operation involved the Environmental Task Force led by DCP Francis Ojomo (retd.), officials of OYRLEA, operatives of the Amotekun Corps, personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and other state enforcement agencies.
OYRLEA stressed that compliance within the 14-day window is mandatory, warning that failure to vacate the area would attract enforcement action in line with the law.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public assets and ensuring a lawful, orderly and safe environment for residents.
