Lagos APC Dismisses ADC’s ‘Silencing’ Claim, Says Opposition Losing Touch With Nigerians
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed recent allegations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that the ruling party is attempting to silence opposition voices ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Thursday by its Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, the Lagos APC described the ADC’s claims as “a desperate attempt to seek attention,” insisting that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is focused on governance, not political distractions.
“The ADC’s statement is the political equivalent of a mosquito accusing a lion of roaring too loudly. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC are too busy reshaping Nigeria’s destiny to bother with political spectators who only appear during election season to make noise and vanish after the count,” Oladejo said.
He argued that while the APC continues to strengthen its internal structures and refine governance strategies, opposition parties like the ADC are “preoccupied with expelling their own members and managing internal crises.”
“It is laughable that a party which exists only on newspaper pages and WhatsApp groups claims to be under threat,” the statement read. “The ADC’s brand of politics has no base, no followers, and no relevance — just a press release and a logo that might soon need a missing person’s announcement.”
Oladejo accused the ADC of attempting to justify what he described as its “imminent electoral defeat” by blaming the ruling party in advance. He maintained that political failure, not persecution, was the reason for the opposition’s waning relevance, adding “You don’t lose elections because your opponents silenced you — you lose because the people don’t believe in you”.
Reaffirming the APC’s commitment to good governance, Oladejo said the Tinubu-led administration remains focused on delivering the Renewed Hope Agenda and will not be distracted by what he called “professional complainers.”
“The only thing being silenced in Nigeria today is failure, confusion, and the politics of bitterness. The ADC should stop hallucinating about persecution and start learning basic political arithmetic.”
The Lagos APC spokesman urged the ADC to channel its energy into building grassroots structures rather than issuing “empty press statements,” adding that the ruling party remains committed to building a nation of unity, prosperity, and opportunity. As for the ADC — stop crying wolf; the nation has moved on”.
