Six people trapped in the rubble of a collapsed two-storey building in the Mangoro area of Alimosho, Lagos, have been rescued by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
This was disclosed by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, in a statement posted on his Facebook page.
Omotoso said the cause of the incident, which occurred around 6 p.m. on Wednesday at 4 Modupeola Street, Mangoro Bus Stop, Alimosho, had not yet been determined. He added that government officials had already launched an investigation into the collapse.
According to him, LASEMA and other first responders arrived at the scene promptly and rescued a victim who had been trapped, as well as five others, from the debris.
“The five who were rescued were taken to a private hospital in the neighbourhood. The trapped victim, who sustained a fracture and bruises, was taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) Surgical Emergency Unit by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS). He arrived at the hospital in a stable condition and was immediately admitted for further treatment,” the statement read.
Omotoso further disclosed that the 44-year-old patient lives at 10 Olabode Street, Alimosho.
