Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Friday returned to Port Harcourt to resume official duties, more than 24 hours after President Bola Tinubu lifted the six-month state of emergency imposed on the state.
Fubara’s flight touched down at the Port Harcourt International Airport at about 12:19 p.m., where a large crowd of supporters had gathered at the VIP wing to welcome him.
The governor and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, had been out of office since March 18, when President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, citing a deepening political crisis.
During the period, Tinubu appointed retired Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as administrator of the state.
In a farewell broadcast on Wednesday night, Ibas handed over the reins of power and urged all political actors to embrace dialogue and mutual respect to consolidate peace.
