The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described the defection of the 2023 Labour Party governorship candidate, Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a desperate move by “a serial party defector.”
In a statement issued by its spokesman, Mr. Seye Oladejo, the party said Lagos is “not a laboratory for serial defectors and confused apprentices,” accusing Rhodes-Vivour of lacking political ideology and consistency.
According to the APC, Rhodes-Vivour has moved from the Kowa Party to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), then to the Labour Party, and now to the ADC. “Each move leaves behind chaos, betrayal and disappointment for those who supported him,” the statement said.
The party alleged that the former Labour Party candidate has shown no clear political direction or loyalty, adding that his “pattern of abandoning parties undermines public trust in leadership.”
Oladejo further stated that Lagosians deserve credible and consistent leadership, not “a rolling stone” changing platforms for personal ambition. He added that governance in the state is serious business and cannot be treated like “a reality show where candidates change costumes every season.”
The APC also faulted the Labour Party for lamenting Rhodes-Vivour’s defection, saying the development “should not come as a surprise” given his political history.
The statement concluded by questioning how Lagosians could entrust their mandate to a candidate who has “traversed four different political parties in a short but uneventful political career.”
