The National Assembly has said Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (Kogi Central) cannot resume her legislative duties despite completing her six-month suspension.
Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended in March 2025 by a Senate resolution over alleged misconduct following a dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over seating arrangements during plenary.
In a letter dated September 4, 2025, and signed by the Acting Clerk to the National Assembly (Ag. CNA), Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, the Parliament acknowledged receiving Akpoti-Uduaghan’s notice of her intended return to the Senate on September 4 — the date she claimed marked the end of her suspension.
However, the letter clarified that her suspension, which began on March 6, 2025, remains in force pending the outcome of the matter currently before the Court of Appeal.
“The matter, therefore, remains sub judice, and until the judicial process is concluded and the Senate formally reviews the suspension in the light of the court’s pronouncement, no administrative action can be taken by this office to facilitate your resumption,” the letter read.
It added that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan “will be duly notified of the Senate’s decision on the matter as soon as it is resolved.”
The National Assembly emphasised that no administrative action would be taken until the Court of Appeal delivers its verdict on the case.
