LAGFEERY MD Emphasizes Importance Of Sustainable Transportation Options For Lagos Residents

 

The Managing Director of Lagos State Ferry Services, Hon. Abdoulbaq Ladi Balogun, has emphasized the significance of advancing sustainable transportation options for Lagos State residents and citizens.

Speaking at the 2025 Strategic Management Retreat, Balogun noted that the focus of the retreat is on developing a multimodal transportation system that integrates water, rail, and road transportation to deliver efficient services to Lagosians.

He highlighted the importance of a functional transportation system in achieving the goals of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ agenda, particularly the first pillar, which focuses on traffic management and transportation.

Balogun noted that Lagos Ferry plays a critical role in ensuring that the waterways and waterbodies in Lagos State are utilized to their full potential, highlighting the progress made in integrating the three modes of transportation.

He noted that the two local governments (Amuwo-Odofin LG and Oriade LCDA) are associated with seven functional jetties and terminals operated by Lagos Ferry, and their input will be crucial in advancing sustainable transportation options for Lagos State.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Amuwo Odofin Local Government, said LAGFERRY has provided a viable alternative transportation route for Lagosians, commending the agency’s leadership under the Managing Director Hon. Ladi Balogun, for turning the agency around and achieving significant progress.

Also, the Chairman of Oriade LCDA, Abdurazak Olojede, expressed the council’s willingness to partner with LAGFERRY to sustain water transportation in Lagos, pledging to collaborate on awareness campaigns, particularly on safety issues such as the use of life jackets.

The Permanent Secretary of the Public Service Office, Mrs Sunkanmi Oyegbola commended LAGFERRY’s efforts in promoting water transportation in Lagos State, noting that it will help reduce traffic congestion on the roads and save man-hour, adding ” the agency’s collaboration with other government agencies, particularly those in the transportation sector, is crucial in ensuring that Lagosians get to their destinations safely and efficiently”.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Parastatatal Monitoring Office, Hon. Ibrahim Obanikoro, applauded LAGFERRY for its achievements, noting that the agency demonstrates dedication and innovation.
