LASTMA Warns Transport Unions Against Unauthorised ‘Union Sticker’ Use In Lagos

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has issued a stern warning to transport unions and their affiliates over the unauthorised deployment of “Union Stickers” as vehicular registration identifiers across the state.

In a statement released on Sunday by the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, condemned the practice as a flagrant violation of regulatory frameworks. He described it as a serious security breach and a subversion of lawful vehicle identification systems within the metropolis.

Bakare-Oki stressed that, in line with Lagos State’s prevailing security architecture, every vehicle operating on public roads must be duly registered and documented through constitutionally empowered government agencies responsible for vehicular regulation and enforcement.

He warned that the proliferation of such unauthorised identifiers endangers public safety, hampers effective law enforcement, and undermines statutory registration protocols.

Reaffirming the state government’s zero tolerance for illegal practices, the LASTMA boss disclosed that the agency, in collaboration with security formations and other enforcement bodies, would intensify surveillance across strategic corridors to ensure total compliance with extant laws.

“Any vehicle found navigating the roadways under the guise of ‘Union Sticker’ identifiers or other unauthorised symbols shall be summarily impounded, and those responsible will face full sanctions under the law,” Bakare-Oki declared.

He urged transport union members to comply strictly with lawful registration procedures, noting that adherence was not merely a matter of administrative orderliness but a critical safeguard for the collective security and well-being of all Lagosians.

The statement added that the Lagos State Government, through LASTMA, is seeking the cooperation of all stakeholders to sanitise the transport sector while assuring the motoring public that decisive enforcement measures will be rigorously sustained to protect lives, secure property, and uphold the integrity of traffic management across the state.
