Hamzat Lauds Youth Ministry For Organising Staff Retreat

The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat has commended the new management of the Ministry of Youth and Social Development for organising a retreat for members of staff after more than 15 years.

Hamzat said this during a brief interactive session with the Ministry at the end of its three-day retreat held at Novatel Hotel Ltd, Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos.

He said, “It is surprising that the Ministry has not held a retreat for its staff in 25 years. The Ministry itself is big enough to be split into three: Welfare, Social Development and Rehabilitation.

“So there is no reason for the members of staff not to be allowed to learn new things about what they do. Retreat affords participants the opportunity to work on their potential and acquire more knowledge through continuous learning.”

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende said the bold decision was taken to take away the members of staff from the usual norms and protocols prevalent in Alausa that hinder them from exploring new grounds and ideas.

He said, “The retreat is basically for GL 13 &14 staff. We realize the fact that there is a need for this significant cadre to be allowed to learn, unlearn and relearn new things.

“Of course, we cannot overstress the importance of knowledge for effective and efficient service delivery. They need new knowledge for optimum performance if we must actualise the vision of the present administration.”
