The Lagos State Government has formally transferred the Epe General Hospital to the Federal Government in a move aimed at enhancing access to affordable healthcare for residents.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the transfer with the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Tunji Alausa, during the Lagos Trauma Conference 2024, held in Oniru, Victoria Island.
The hospital, now renamed the Federal Medical Centre, Epe, will become a key part of efforts to make Lagos a model for universal health coverage, according to Minister Alausa.
He emphasized that the facility would offer enhanced specialized services and support broader healthcare delivery in the state. The minister also outlined plans for additional healthcare facilities over the next two years.
Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted the significance of the transfer, noting that it marked a new chapter in health service delivery for Lagos, particularly in managing trauma care and emergency services. He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to deepening strategies and partnerships within the healthcare sector.
Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the governor’s wife, stressed the importance of trauma care centers in ensuring a safer Lagos. She emphasized the need for local solutions to healthcare challenges and the importance of being adequately prepared for emergencies.
